Since 1903, Harley-Davidson has produced the most enduring and recognizable motorcycles in the world. No other motorcycle has the look, the sound and feel of its two-wheeled pieces of art. The motorcycle defines Harley-Davidson, but a wide-range of other products and services are available to increase the enjoyment of current and future enthusiasts.
Harley-Davidson offers thousands of attractive accessories to customize every model and that’s why you rarely see two
Harley-Davidson motorcycles that are exactly alike through its complete line of Genuine Motorcycle Parts & Accessories. Likewise expressing individuality is why it offers a full line of quality riding apparel as part of its MotorClothes apparel line. Power. That’s what the legend was built on. While the shape of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle has changed and evolved over the decades, one thing has remained constant. Its mighty engine. And the home of the “Big Twin” is the Pilgrim Road Powertrain Operations facility located in Menomonee Falls. The total building size is 849,000 square feet and sits on 63 acres. The plant, purchased in 1996, produces engines and transmissions for the final assembly plants in York, Penn., Kansas City, Mo for Touring, Softail® and Dyna™ model families. Engines and transmissions are also produced for sale through Harley-Davidson’s Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories business.
The facility is jointly managed by salaried leadership and representatives from USW (United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers Industrial Union) Local 2-209 and IAM (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) Lodge 78. The facility is divided into manufacturing units managed by 34 work groups. Work groups are responsible for manufacturing 50 different engine and 28 different transmission configurations for Touring, Softail® and Dyna™ motorcycles.
One of the things that sets Harley-Davidson apart from other companies is employee involvement. Harley-Davidson would not be where it is today without the passion of all those who work for the Company and their desire to make a difference in the business. Employees are the engine of the Company’s performance and the foundation for its success. Employees take that to heart and believe in supporting the needs of the communities in which they work, by getting involved as volunteers.
Through a Volunteer Matching Hours Program, Harley-Davidson employees are encouraged to volunteer and commit their time and talent to non-profit community organizations. The hours they contribute are matched with a company contribution to the organization,
Each year, a portion of Company profits is earmarked for the Harley-Davidson Foundation. The Foundation focuses its lion’s share of giving on education and community revitalization. Additionally, the Foundation supports arts and culture, health initiatives and the environment. Harley-Davidson has been a corporate sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for close to three decades and has raised more than $65 million dollars.
If there is one secret to Harley-Davidson’s enduring brand and the passion it ignites in its riders is that it delivers these experiences, rather than merely offering a collection of products and services. Harley-Davidson is dedicated to creating experiences and developing relationships with all of its stakeholders-customers, employees, investors, suppliers, governments and society. That’s what sets Harley-Davison apart from the crowd and why its brand strength is legendary. |
